Bianca won the Rogers Cup after Serena Williams withdrew in the first set with an injury.
”I know how it is to pull out of tournaments and be injured. It’s not easy and this wasn’t the way I accepted to win … but you’re truly a champion … on and off the court,” said the 19-year-old after both players exchanged words and tears.
Turning to her win, Bianca calls it ”a dream come true,” before adding ”this is just the beginning,” as told the hometown crowd cheered loudly.
The last Canadian woman to win the tournament, which was known as the Canadian Open in 1969, was Faye Urban Mlacak.
