After 39 human cases of West Nile virus last year, Toronto Public Health is reporting its first case of 2019.

West Nile virus is transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito.

Flu-like symptoms, fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, body aches, usually develop between two and 14 days.

Older individuals or those with compromised immune systems are at higher risk of severe illness.
