Justin Trudeau remains steadfast in not apologizing to Canadians for his role in the SNC-Lavalin affair, the day after the ethics commissioner found the prime minister violated the Conflict of Interest Act.

”I’m not going to apologize for standing up for Canadians’ jobs because that’s my job — to make sure that Canadians, communities and families across the country are supported, and that’s what I will always do,” said the prime minister in Fredericton this morning.

The report found he violated the law by trying to influence former attorney-general Jody Wilson-Raybould and get her to overrule a decision not to grant a deferred prosecution agreement to the Montreal engineering giant.

Wilson-Raybould and fellow former Liberal MP Jane Philpott, who were kicked out of caucus, are among those increasing pressure on Trudeau to apologize.
