The Liberal majority on the Commons ethics committee has shot down an opposition motion calling Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion to testify about his report that found the prime minister violated the Conflict of Interest Act in the SNC-Lavalin affair.

Beaches East York Nathaniel Erskine-Smith was only one of six Liberals on the 10-member Commons ethics commission to support the motion because he said he wanted Dion to explain what Erskine-Smith considered the commissioner’s ”legally flawed” conclusion.
Quebec Liberal Steven MacKinnon spoke for the other Liberals, dismissing the motion as a blatantly partisan attempt to keep the controversy on voters’ minds.
”The only conclusion that I, and members of this committee, can come to is that the opposition seeks to prolong the process for reasons of politics, reasons of partisan games, and it is for that reason … that we will be opposing this motion,” added MacKinnnon.
