Doug Ford says his government may abandon its court challenge of the federal carbon tax.
But the premier says that decision will be made by voters in October vote, not in the courts.
The province lost its case against the tax at Ontario’s top court in June and said it would appeal to the Supreme Court.
Ford now says he’ll reconsider pursuing the matter if the Conservatives lose the election.
Federal Environment Minister Catherine McKenna says she’s hopeful he will do the responsible thing and not wait until then.
Meanwhile, the province says gas station owners, who don’t put his government’s anti-carbon tax stickers on their pumps, will be fined less than $500, not the $10,000 maximum.
Gas stations have to put the stickers up by next Friday.
