While the Trudeau Liberals have a slim 3.5% lead over the Scheer Conservatives across the country, they have a big advantage in Ontario.
That’s one of the findings of the latest Mainstreet Research poll.
”If the election were held today, the Liberals would comfortably win a majority,” says Mainstreet President and CEO Quito Maggi.
”The solace for the other parties is that the election is not going to be held today and that they will have the entire writ period to chip into the Liberal lead,” Maggi adds.
Nationally, the Liberals are first with 37.5% of decided and leaning voters compared with the Tories 34%.
The Greens are third at 10.8% and NDP fourth at 8.4% with Maxime Bernier’s People’s Party fifth at 4.6% while 11.1% remain undecided.
In Ontario, the Liberals have a much larger lead; 45.3% compared to 30.4% for the Conservatives, 10.1% for the Greens and 7.5% for the NDP.
Elsewhere, the Liberals are first in Atlantic Canada at 49.1% and Quebec at 40.3%.
Meanwhile, the Conservatives are top choice in Alberta at 63% and the Prairies 50.8%.
