Some city councillors, Mike Colle, Josh Matlow and Jaye Roinson, are calling on the city to put a pause on development in the Yonge-Eglinton neighbourhood after a 54-year-old woman pedestrian was struck and killed Tuesday by a cement truck.

However, city councillor James Pasternak told Zoomer Radio’s ”Fight Back” with Libby Znaimer he’s not sure that’s possible.
”A moratorium on construction, I’m not sure whether the city has the legal means to do it and whether the courts will even uphold any kind of freeze on construction,” added Pasternak.
Councillor Mike Colle, who describes the problem as chaotic, claims there’s more construction in the mid-town area than the rest of Canada – combined.
Concerned politicians and residents say pedestrian safety issues have arisen from condo development in general, and the building of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT in particular.
