The province is investing nearly $40-million, more than double the funding from 2017-18, to improve frontline mental health services for students.
The government’s investing in nine programs including the permanent funding for approximately 180 mental health workers (social workers, psychologists and psychotherapists) in secondary schools.

The announcement by Education Minister Stephen Lecce at the announcement at Toronto’s Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, comes on World Mental Health Day and just three days after the murder of Hamilton teen Devan Selvey.
The 14-year-old’s death was witnessed by his mother who says Devan had been bullied since the start of the school year and that everyone, including herself, had let him down.
A 14-year-old boy and 18-year-old male have been charged with first-degree murder.
In Ontario, 70% of mental health and addictions issues start in childhood or adolescence.
One in five students in Grades 7-12 rate their mental health as fair or poor.
