Admitting for the first time that he will not meet his ”do or die” deadline to have Britain leave the European Union next week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s calling for an election December 12, his third attempt to try to force a snap vote.

 

”The way to get Brexit done is, I think, to be reasonable to Parliament,” the prime minister said during a televised statement.

”If they genuinely want more time to study this excellent deal, they can have it, but they have to agree to a general election on December 12.  That’s the way forward.”

The Opposition Labour Party has said it could only back an election when the threat of a no-deal Brexit was off the table.

With just a week before the U.K. was scheduled to leave the EU, the bloc appears ready to grant Johnson a Brexit delay.
