Yet another pedestrian has been killed in Toronto, and 2 others were injured in 3 separate incidents, all in Scarborough.

In the deadly collision, a man was killed Wednesday evening after he was struck by a vehicle near Lawrence Avenue East and Birchmount Road.

A woman has been seriously hurt by a vehicle in the area of McNicoll Avenue and McCowan Road.

And a third pedestrian, a woman, was taken to hospital in serious condition after she was hit on Ellesmere Road and Orton Park Road.

Pedestrian safety is a regular topic on Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with Libby Znaimer, since pedestrians 55 and older are more likely to die of their injuries than younger pedestrians.

Mayor John Tory believes the failure in pedestrian collisions is almost always on the part of drivers.

“We’ve got to have people smarten up, we’ve got to have people start to be more sensitive up to the fact there are more pedestrians,” Tory explained earlier this week, “Frankly, there are more older pedestrians nowadays because of demographics and it’s the principle onus that rests on driver to change their behaviour.”

The mayor says you can take all the measures implemented as part of Vision Zero and Vision Zero 2.0, but if drivers don’t take the adequate care, then there will continue to be collisions involving pedestrians.
