The wife of former North York and Toronto mayor Mel Lastman, has died following a brief illness.

Marilyn Lastman, 84, passed away last evening at Toronto General Hospital with her family at her side.

Son Blayne says she taught his family about loyalty and the importance of treating others with dignity and respect.

Lastman served as mayor of North York between 1973 and 1997.

Following amalgamation, he served as first mayor of the ”mega-city” from 1998 until 2003.

The Lastman family also founded the Bad Boy appliance and furniture business in 1955.
