Investigators with Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization have released an initial report into yesterday’s deadly Ukrainian plane crash.

They say the black boxes have been found, although with missing information.

Investigators say the crew of the plane never made a radio call for help and wanted to turn back to Tehran’s main airport before going down. The plane is also said to have been on fire before impact.

But they have not offered an immediate explanation for the disaster that killed 176 people, including 63 Canadians.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy says crash investigators from his country have arrived in Iran to assist in the probe.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is promising investigators from this country will be involved in figuring out what led to the crash.

“I’m confident that we are going to be able to be part of the investigation,” Trudeau explained to reporters Wednesday, “That is certainly something we take very seriously and something in which Canada is among a handful of countries with a high degree of expertise when it comes to these sorts of accidents.”

Trudeau added that Canadian consular teams will be prepared to go to Iran to work out arrangements for Canadian involvement in the crash investigation.
