Elementary Teachers with the Toronto District and Catholic District, York Region District and Ottawa-Carleton boards will begin rotating one-day strikes Monday unless a deal is reached with the Ford government by the end of this week.
Shortly after the union gave the required five days’ notice, the government said it would be offering up to $60-a-day to parents whose children would be affected.
Parents whose children are not yet enrolled in school but attend school-based child-care centres would receive the most ($60-a-day).
Those whose children are in Junior and Senior Kindergarten would get $40, Grades 1 through 7 would get the least ($25) while those with special needs up to the age of 21 will receive ($40).
Meanwhile, public high schools in 16 boards, including Durham Region are closed today in the fifth job action by OSSTF members.
As of tomorrow teachers will all major unions will be involved in some type of job action.
