Today is known as “Blue Monday” because the lore behind it says it’s the saddest day of the year.
However, there’s no particular science behind the claim. The day actually originated with a travel company in England as a marketing tool. The company was trying to increase sales to warmer, sunnier climes in the middle of winter.
However, there is a physiological disorder identified as “SAD” or Seasonal Affective Disorder which the Canadian Mental Health Association says impacts about 3% of the population severely and about 15% mildly.
The antidote is exercise, eating healthy and getting plenty of sleep and if possible usage of a light-therapy lamp which mimics sunlight.
