The 176 Canadians on board a charter plane which left the centre of the coronavirus outbreak in China yesterday, arrived at 6:30am Friday at CFB Trenton.

All the evacuees will spend 14 days under quarantine on the military base being monitored to see if they have contracted the virus which has now led to 636 deaths on mainland China and 1 in Hong Kong.

We’ve also learned that five additional Canadians on board that quarantined cruise ship off Japan have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, in addition to 2 Canadians tested earlier.

In all, there have been 61 people on that ship who’ve tested positive.

Word from Princess Cruises is that the quarantine period for the stranded passengers on board will end February 19th.

Foreign Affairs Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne says the Canadian mission in Tokyo has been in touch with the Canadian passengers to offer them consular assistance, and the government will look to the cruise line to repatriate them after the quarantine.

There are two new presumptive cases of the novel coronavirus in British Columbia; a man and woman visiting from China, who are related to a woman in her 50s who’s test also came back positive.

In Ontario, 169 people have been tested for the virus, and 104 have been cleared.

Sixty-two individuals are currently under investigation while the number of confirmed cases remains at 3.
