The City of Toronto is under another extreme cold weather alert; advising of temperatures over night tonight in the minus 17 celsius range with wind chills expected to touch minus -25.
The alert triggers additional services to ensure homeless people know about the dangers of staying outside and have the means to get inside to a safe place.
The alert is not designed to be a weather warning to the general population but triggers a series of actions to help the most vulnerable. Warming centres are opened and community agencies are asked to relax any service restrictions, make transit tokens available and adds additional overnight street outreach.
Members of the general public are asked to check on loved ones during these periods of extreme cold.
