Ontario’s Patient Ombudsman wants staff, residents of long-term care homes and their families to report any complaints about care and safety during the province’s COVID-19 lock down.
Craig Thompson says the complaints received thus far can be grouped into three types; staffing shortages, inadequate infection control and poor communications.
Since the Ombudsman’s office began tracking this, there has been a 25% jump in long-term care complaints.
Ontario has more than 2,500 confirmed cases of COVID-19 among residents of long-term care or retirement homes. Nearly 1,200 staff have been infected. Of the province’s 892 COVID 19 related deaths, 671 have been long-term care residents.
