We’re learning the vast majority of COVID-19 related deaths occurring in the province’s long term care homes are in for-profit homes.
Researchers at the Ontario Health Coalition examined deaths in 93 long term care environments and found that, out of more than 1000 deaths, 700 occurred in for-profit homes, 275 in not-for-profit homes, and 82 in municipally run homes.
The Coalition report says that equals a 9 per cent death rate in the for-profit homes, 5 per cent in non-profit and 3 per cent in the municipally owned institutions
It also reveals the for-profit homes have the lowest staffing rates.
