Grammy winner Melissa Etheridge has lost her 21-year old son to an opioid addiction.

The 57 year old singer songwriter is mourning the death of Beckett Cypher, her son with former partner Julie Cypher, who was conceived with sperm from musician David Crosby.

Etheridge wrote on a social media post that she has now joined hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones to opioid addiction. She said Beckett would be missed by those who loved him and added, “My heart is broken.”

Etheridge is a gay rights and environmental activist, who toured Canada and the U.S. 2006, using biodiesel in her tour buses.
