Are we ready for stage one of reopening Ontario’s economy?
Premier Doug Ford has given every indication that his Thursday afternoon announcement will detail what’s to come as part of stage one, and not that stage one will begin right away.
The exceptions could be golf courses and marinas, whose owners were told earlier this month they could get ready for reopening.
Stage one in the province’s reopening framework includes allowing more people to gather at certain events such as funerals.
It would also permit hospitals to resume some non-urgent surgeries.
The premier also says the various stages of reopening will only happen with the guidance of Ontario’s chief medical officer of health.
Toronto Mayor John Tory said Thursday morning, he agrees with his fellow GTHA mayors that because cities have been harder hit with COVID-19, the real concern is around the second stage of reopening.
“Because that would be a much broader opening and a much broader allowance of bigger groups to gather and so forth and I think we just feel that we should be very careful in going to that second phase and make sure that it is motivated more by public health than anything else as it should be,” Tory told CP24.
