The coronoavirus pandemic has now claimed the life of the last living member of the world famous Amadeus Quartet.

Martin Lovett played cello for the quartet for all four decades of its existence. He was the only British-born member of the ensemble which disbanded in 1987.

The quartet set the gold standard in chamber music for four decades after World War II playing in the Viennese tradition of smooth, lush strings.

Martin Lovett died in North London of complications from COVID-19.

He was 93.
