Operators of movie drive-ins got their wish with the provincial government allowing them to re-open as of Sunday and there may soon be more than movies to take in.
In Denmark, they’re using car parking lots to stage concerts where people physically distance by staying in their cars.
In Prague, they’ve gone one better, with the Czech National Theatre staging a play in a parking lot.
Back in Ontario, drive-ins were forced to remain closed this spring despite being naturally suited for physical distancing, since staying in your car covers that. Most have now installed portable washrooms and online ordering systems that allow them to deliver food and drinks safely to customers’ cars.
Typically the drive in theatres open in March.
