If you enjoyed the musical scores to Clint Eastwood hits, like “Bird” or “Unforgiven,” you were appreciating the work of Lennie Niehaus.
In “Tightrope,” which was set in New Orleans, Eastwood wanted the cacophony of music that burst from clubs on Bourbon Street and after flying to New Orleans to get the flavour, Niehous reproduced it.
Niehaus was a sax player in Stan Kenton’s band in the 1950s before turning to a career scoring movies.
Lennie Niehaus died of heart-related issues.
He was 90.
