A girl in Toronto is the first person in Ontario under the age of 20 to die with the coronavirus.
Toronto Public Health says she was between zero and nine-years-old and ”died with COVID-19, but not as a result” of it.
She was tested June 18 and received her result two days later.
The Ministry of Health says she contracted it through community spread.
Her death is under investigation by the local public health unit and the provincial coroner’s office.
This is the fifth person under 30 to die since the outbreak in Ontario started in late January.
Meanwhile, there are 216 new cases in the province; the highest number in 10 days.
Health Minister Christine Elliot says it’s too early to draw conclusions.
Toronto and Peel Region will move to Stage 2 of reopening Wednesday, leaving only Windsor-Essex in Stage 1.
