Air Canada’s indefinitely suspending service on 30 domestic regional routes and closing eight stations at regional airports across the country.
The airline says the moves come in the wake of continuing weak demand for both business and leisure travel due to COVID restrictions and border closures.
Air Canada’s closing its stations at two regional airports in Ontario; Kingston and North Bay and indefinitely suspending the following routes in the province; Kingston- Toronto, North Bay-Toronto, London-Ottawa and Windsor-Montreal.
Air Canada also says further service suspensions will be considered over the coming weeks along with other possible changes to its schedule and network.
Earlier in the year, the airline announced it would layoff about 20,000 or more than half its employees as part of a plan to cut costs.
Air Canada says overall capacity was down 85% in the second-quarter compared with a year ago.
It expects capacity in the third-quarter to be off 75% compared with the summer of 2019.
