In Denmark, the statue of Hans Christian Andersen’s Little Mermaid has been vandalized again; this time with the text “racist fish” tagged onto the famed landmark.
The statue sits at the entrance to Copenhagen’s harbour. It was created as a tribute to the Danish storyteller and has been a frequent target for vandals.
She’s been blown off her perch, beheaded and painted over.
This latest incident comes as statues and monuments around the world are being reconsidered in light of racial justice demonstrations that followed the death of George Floyd at the hands of four Minneapolis police officers.
