As Ontario’s final two communities (Kingsville and Leamington) enter stage two of the province’s COVID-19 economic recovery program today, plans are being made to move the province to Stage 3.

According to the provincial government’s restart plan, Stage 3 would see a further relaxing of public health restrictions on public gatherings, as well as reopening all workplaces.

Doctor Ashleigh Tuite is a Toronto infectious disease specialist and says masks, social distancing, and hand washing will become more important than ever.

“It’s possible we can have manageable increases if we have all of these measures in place,” Tuite tells CBC Radio.

Meantime, Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott still isn’t confirming a time line for Stage 3.

“I can’t name a specific date, but I can tell you that the team is actively looking at the data and looking to move into Stage 3 as soon as we possible can,” Elliott told Monday’s news conference.

In the current Stage 2, movie theatres, gyms, fitness studios and yoga studios remain largely closed, while restaurant owners restricted to patio-dining have been struggling as they wait for the province to enter the third and final stage of the economic revival plan.

But even in Stage 3, sporting events and concerts will be largely restricted for some time.
