The downpour won’t provide much relief from the heat and humidity as the conditions are favourable for severe storms.
Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch; replacing an earlier severe thunderstorm warning as well as a short-lived tornado watch for Toronto.
50 to 70-millimetres of rain are possible with extremely gusty winds.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends taking cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
Meanwhile, the hot, humid conditions are expected to continue the rest of the week.
A heat warning from Environment Canada states daytime highs in the 30s and humidex values in the upper 30s to low 40s are likely.
Overnight temperatures near 20 are also expected.
While a slightly cooler weather system might move into the area by the weekend, there’s also much uncertainty that could see the heat and humidity last until Saturday.
