As we wait to hear what Ontario’s Premier announces Monday afternoon about Stage 3 COVID-19 economic reopening, Toronto’s mayor says he’s met with Doug Ford to discuss whether Toronto moves to Stage 3 at the same time as other regions across Ontario.

Toronto was among the municipalities which moved to Stage 2 later than other parts of the province due to higher numbers of COVID-19.

John Tory says we’ve seen steadily decreasing numbers here in the city.

“If we could just stay the course and wear the face coverings and keep our distance, there’s every hope that we’re going to move into phase 3 very shortly,” Tory explained.

And Mayor Tory says public safety and health always come first when further reopenings are considered.

“Making sure that Toronto and surrounding area may require some different attention in terms of the timing, but the bottom line is we’re all moving forward together.”

Ontario entered Stage 1 in late May and Stage 2 in a staggered approach through June and early July.

The next stage could involve the resumption of activities such as indoor dining, bars, movie theatres and gyms.

It will also involve the reopening of all playground equipment across the province.
