In what could be seen as further evidence life is returning somewhat to normal, Milan’s famed La Scala Opera House has announced a fall program of concerts and ballets.
It kicks off September 4th with Verdi’s “Requiem” in Milan’s Duomo.
La Scala’s music director says the program is a signal of confidence that European cultural life can resume in full following the coronavirus lockdowns.
The theatre itself will reopen on September 12th with Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and its “Ode to Joy” movement in a performance reserved for Italian health care workers.
It’s reported La Scala has lost some $27 million in box office sales since the theatre was closed in February.
