Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland with that promise which will see the federal government impose $3.6-billion in penalties, starting August 16, to counter Washington’s decision to reimpose the 10% tariff on Canadian aluminum.

She called the Trump administration the most protectionist in U.S. history and the rationale for the move ”ludicrous” and ”absurd.”
Freeland also says Americans would be the ones who’ll suffer more than anyone else, predicting a price increase on the washing machines made at the Ohio plant where Donald Trump announced the tariffs Thursday.
The deputy prime minister says Ottawa would seek to avoid escalating the dispute but that retaliation would be reciprocal.
The government intends to spend 30 days consulting with business leaders and other Canadians about potential targets from a preliminary list.
