After nearly three-and-a-half years, the GOP-led Senate intelligence committee says associates of Donald Trump were in regular contact with the Kremlin and eager to benefit from Moscow’s help to defeat Hillary Clinton.
Unlike other reports though, this one does not come to a final conclusion about whether there’s enough evidence that the Trump campaign criminally conspired with Russia to sway the election, leaving its findings open to partisan interpretation.
Some panel Republicans want the report to state explicitly that there was no co-ordination, while some Democrats argue the report clearly shows there was.
Former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort was convicted and sentenced to prison last year for various offences, but has since been released to serve his sentence in home confinement due to COVID-19 concerns.
