DOCTORS WARN COLD, FLU SEASON, POSSIBLE 2ND COVID WAVE COULD POSE HEALTHCARE CHALLENGES

While economies gradually re-open and Canadian families prepare for a new look school year, a warning from doctors.
Given the overlap in symptoms, the head of the Canadian Medical Association says it’s hard for doctors to tell the difference between sniffles from the cold and COVID-19.
Dr. Sandy Buchman says many hygiene habits; hand washing, physical distancing, the wearing of masks, can reduce the risks of catching the cold or flu.
Between a rise in cold and flu cases and a possible second wave this winter, the doctor says it’s all the more important to get the flu shot.
However, Dr. Buchman says to expect longer wait times given capacity will be limited by COVID-19 restrictions.
Canada’s top public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam recently said health officials are working to help hospitals prepare for an anticipated convergence of viral activity.
