Long before Marvel comic’s ‘The Avengers,’ there was a popular 1960s TV series of the same name.
Dame Diana Rigg, who played stylish secret agent Emma Peel opposite Patrick McNee’s dapper spy John Steed, has died of cancer at 82.
Daughter, actress Rachael Stirling, says after being diagnosed in March, her mother spent her last months joyfully reflecting on ”her extraordinary life, full of love, laughter and a deep pride in her profession.”
Rigg also played the only woman to marry James Bond in ”On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.”
More recently she portrayed Olenna Tyrell in ”Game of Thrones.”
Rigg, a Tony, Emmy and British Academy of Film and Television Arts award winner, won a special BAFTA award in 2000 for The Avengers; shared with the series’ other female stars Honor Blackman, Joanna Lumley and Linda Thorson.
