We are learning about some of what will be in next week’s Throne Speech in Ottawa.

A Toronto Star report says a renewed commitment to develop a national pharmacare program and a boost to child care will be major pieces of the Trudeau Liberals’ agenda.

But Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday on the first day of a two day cabinet retreat that the health and safety of Canadians is his priority.

“Our focus right now is on the COVID crisis. We need to get through this in order to be able to talk about next steps, so a lot of what we’re going to be doing during this retreat will be talking about how we continue to keep COVID under control, continue to make sure that Canadians are safe, that we’re not overloading our healthcare system,” Trudeau explained to reporters.

On this front, the throne speech will reportedly set out priorities in three areas – the immediate fight against COVID-19, including access to a vaccine, drug treatments and protecting vital supply chains; support to sustain individuals and businesses through the crisis; and efforts for the long term economic recovery, which include plans for “clean and green” investments.
