While three-quarters of Canadians believe what public health experts say about the threat of COVID-19, a new survey suggests a quarter of Canadians feel the warnings are vastly overblown.

A new online Leger poll also finds respondents in Alberta are more likely to believe the threat is embellished, followed by Atlantic Canada and Quebec, while people in Ontario are most likely to take heed of warnings by the experts.

Broken down by age, younger respondents are more likely than those over 55 to believe statements on COVID-19 are being exaggerated.

Leger executive vice-president Christian Bourque says the results may explain something else that came up in the survey; That a majority of respondents admit they have relaxed how strictly they adhere to public health recommendations.
