Just days after being eliminated from the playoffs by the Boston Celtics, the Raptors have given Nick Nurse a new, multi-year contract.

In a statement, team President Masai Ujiri says their confidence in Nurse continues to grow.

”Part of that comes from what we’ve experienced together.  The past two seasons have been unlike any other in our team’s history — first, winning our championship, and then navigating a global pandemic and committing long-term to the fight against racism and for social justice,” the statement reads.

”Nick has proved that he can coach on the court and lead in life, and we’re looking forward to accomplishing greath things in the future.”

Nurse, whose original contract was to expire at the end of the 2020-21 season, has been with the team for seven seasons’, serving as an assistant to Dwane Casey before succeeding him.

The 53-year-old Nurse took the Raptors to the 2019 championship and was named 2020 NBA coach-of-the-year.
