It’s been such a success Mayor John Tory has announced that the ActiveTO program will continue until the end of October.

“Thanks to the city staff working hard because there is a lot of work involved in opening and closing these streets and on the part of our police service in making sure people are kept safe,” Tory explained to CP24 Wednesday morning.
And the mayor CafeTO may continue through the winter at some restaurants.
“It’s complicated in a winter climate with a lot of snow clearing, but nothing’s impossible, so we’re going to have a look and see what we can do and we’ll then be able to report back to people and hopefully have some good news,” Mayor Tory revealed.
CafeTO has allowed restaurant owners to use the curb lanes in front of their eateries for patios and ActiveTO has closed parts of Lakeshore Blvd. and Bayview Extension on weekends to vehicular traffic to allow people to bike, run and walk in open spaces.
