While she supports the moves announced by the Ford government, the city of Toronto’s medical officer of health recommends more be done.
In a letter to Ontario’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Eileen de Villa tells Dr. David Williams that she wants to avoid a lockdown and is seeking a made-in-Toronto solution to the risks facing residents as the city continues recording the highest number of new COVID-19 cases.
Her recommendations include:
The temporary banning on indoor dining for approximately one month.
That residents only leave home for essential activities, such as work, education, fitness, healthcare appointments and to buy food, with flexibility for up to two people from outside their household to provide social support if someone lives alone.
That all indoor group classes in gyms and indoor activities for recreation and sports teams be discontinued.
That large venues such as banquet halls submit plans to public health about seating and contact tracing.
In support his medical officer of health, Toronto Mayor John Tory says we need to ”slam the brakes” to avoid worse consequences in the future.
