Toronto’s mayor says he expects new public health measures to be announced Friday by the Ford PCs at Queen’s Park which will affect indoor dining in the city.
“They’re having a cabinet meeting this morning to discuss that and there’s been ongoing discussions between ourselves and the provincial government and the various medical officers of health and the people at the political level for several days now to try to figure out something that is very agonizing but is the right thing to do,” John Tory told CP24 Friday morning.

Mayor Tory is hopeful they will follow the advice of Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Eileen de Villa, who’s been asking the province for a week now to shut down indoor restaurant dining and indoor fitness classes in this city to curb the spread of COVID-19.
On Thursday, there was a record number of new COVID-19 cases, just shy of 800.
Ontario’s top public health officer Dr. David Williams is hinting at some changes.
“I gave recommendations from the public health measures table. They will deal with various components – any congregate settings, any areas of risk. So it’s up there for their consideration,” Dr. Williams explained to reporters on Thursday.
Forty-four percent of Toronto’s recent COVID-19 outbreaks have been linked to restaurants.
Premier Doug Ford has been adamant in recent days he does not want to shut down indoor dining, saying he does not want to put restaurant owners out of business.
