Responding to widespread condemnation, Whole Foods Market will reverse its poppy ban for employees.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called it a ”silly mistake,” hoping it would be corrected quickly, and it has been.

Veterans Affairs minister Lawrence MacAulay confirmed the about face with the COO of the Amazon-owned grocer.

Earlier, Whole Foods had defended its uniform policy, saying it was NOT singling out poppies.

Doug Ford called it ”disgusting and disgraceful,” and says legislation is coming.

”When the legislature returns we will introduce legislation to ban companies from preventing their staff from wearing a poppy during Remembrance Week,” said the premier.

“I never, ever want to see any company in Ontario ever do this again.” 

The Commons has unanimously adopted a motion calling on all Canadian employers to let their staff wear poppies during Veterans Week.

There are 14 Whole Foods Market locations across Canada, including 6 in the GTA.
