He was a Cuban musician who helped find new expressive directions for conga drumming, providing dynamic rhythmic accents to jazz and other forms of music.
Candido Camero, has died at his home in New York City.
He often performed as simply “Candido” and toured or recorded with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Tony Bennett and Quincy Jones.
In 2008 he was named a Jazz Master by the U-S National Endowment for the Arts.
No cause of death was given.
Candido Camero was 99.
