With COVID cases surging past the rates Canadians saw last spring, the group representing doctors across the country says in many areas the health care system is ”near or at capacity”.
”Physicians across the country are alarmed,” states Canadian Medical Association President Dr. Ann Collins.
”We are facing a crisis.”
The CMA president goes on to say that the measures being taken now are not sufficient and that the economy ”should not come at the expense of Canadians’ lives.”
”Right now, our health care system — and everyone who works in it — is getting the short end of the stick.”
The CMA’s calling on our leaders to show ”political resolve,” and that the only way out of the crisis is to be guided by the advice of public health experts.
”There is only one valid path before us:  One that is evidence-based and informed by our best public health advice.”
In closing Dr. Collins says the measures before us are difficult but necessary to reduce COVID-19 cases.
