A 67-year-old child and youth worker at St. Frances De Sales School in the Jane-Finch neighbourhood has died of COVID-19. She had several pre-existing conditions that made her most susceptible to infection. It’s been determined she acquired the virus in the community and not at school. However, one class of about 19 students is self-isolating at home due to possible exposure. The school remains open.

Meantime, there will be no extended Christmas break for Ontario students learning in the class room. Less than 24 hours after hinting the holiday break may be extended, Premier Doug Ford has announced that’s not happening.
“Parents and students, the safest place for their kids are in the schools, not when there’s public spread out there, the safest place with the cohorts are in schools,” said Premier Doug Ford.
Ford says the education minister consulted with the Medical Officer of health who made the ultimate decision.
