The verdict on the second COVID-19 vaccine in Canada could be just days away.

The Honourable Patty Hajdu - Member of Parliament - Members of Parliament - House of Commons of Canada

This, according to Health Minister Patty Hajdu. In the daily federal COVID-19 briefing on Tuesday, Hajdu said Health Canada is in possession of everything it needs meaning a final decision could be very close.

“Health Canada now has all the data required to make a decision,” said Hajdu. “My understanding is that a decision will be very soon. Of course, I can’t speak for the regulators. They are independent but they will have information for Canadians in the very near future.”

To date, only the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine has been approved in Canada. The Moderna vaccine will be much easier to transport and store in more remote and northern locations.

Two others are also going through the regulatory process.

The Moderna vaccine has already been approved for emergency use in the U.S. Infectious diseases specialist Dr. Anthony Fauci got a first dose of the Moderna vaccine on Tuesday.
