Peel’s top public health official says he’s unlikely to recommend extending local mask mandates when it expires in March.
But Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa didn’t confirm or deny she’ll recommend the same when the mask mandate in Toronto is lifted next month.
“Measures like masking mandates were always meant to be temporary and we’re actively discussing with the provincial partners and with other partners around the province what moving back on some of these measures looks like,” said Dr. de Villa.
Premier Doug Ford has already said that Ontario is “not far away” from scrapping a province wide mask mandate with an announcement expected in the coming weeks. Masks have been required in public settings since July, 2020.
