American singer Bobby Darin was born. Darin is known for his foray into a number of music genres including pop, folk, rock, jazz and county. His first hit,  ‘Splish Splash‘, was released in 1958. He co-wrote the song with DJ Murray the K (Murray Kaufman).

According to Darin, Murray’s mother, who was also a songwriter, suggested that Darin should write a song with the line ‘Splish Splash, I was takin’ a bath.’  ‘Splish Splash’ became one of Darin’s personal favourites because it was was his introduction to the music scene and his first real hit.
