On March 27, 1965 The Supremes recorded their fourth US No.1 single. The song was none other than Stop! In the Name of Love. The song held the number one spot on the Billboard charts for one week, but it’s popularity doesn’t stop there. This song went on to be covered by many artists including The Jackson 5.
The Supremes choreography for this song which includes their signature hands-on hip stance, with the other hand outstretched in a “stop” gesture is equally as memorable. Paul Williams and Melvin Franklin of The Temptations taught the girls the routine backstage in London, before the Supremes’ first televised performance of the single on the Ready Steady Go! special.
