On July 12, 1954 Elvis Presley signed a recording contract with Sun Records. Presley was just 19-years old and when he found out about his contract he gave in his notice at his day job at The Crown Electric Company.
Elvis was originally going to sing demos of songs meant for other artists, but Sun Records soon realized that Elvis could be the perfect artist to bridge the gap between white and black performers.
