On October 3rd, 1941 American singer-songwriter Chubby Checker was born. He is most notably known for popularizing the twist dance style with his 1960’s cover of Hank Ballard’s R&B hit The Twist. When Chubby Checker first recorded his version of this song, he was just 18-years-old.

Chubby Checker was born as Ernest Evans in South Carolina. He would often entertain his classmates by performing impressions of popular artists of the time such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley and Fats Domino.
